Kovalam-Poovar Tourism Corridor

Kerala Tourism is all set to transform Kovalam - a favourite destination of tourists worldwide - into a world-class tourist destination by 2042. Named Kovalam-Poovar Tourism Corridor, the vision and layout of the 30-year master plan has been developed by Kerala Tourism.

According to the master plan, the area covered by the tourism corridor will be the Kovalam-Poovar belt, which has the Light House, Eve's and Samudra beaches, plus the beaches of Pozhiyoor and Poovar; including several pocket beaches along the 17 km coastline. The coastal belt of Kerala consisting of various beach destinations, starting from Poovar beach in south to Kanwatheertha beach in the north, offers some of the best beach destination experiences and Kovalam is certainly the most preferred by travellers from all over the world.

Kerala Tourism has planned the development in a phased manner with due consideration to the social, cultural, and heritage aspects. The infrastructure, development includes roads and highways, water and power facilities, parking, transportation, solid and liquid waste collection and disposal system and water harvesting. Welfare of local community is a major component of the project.

The primary objective of the project is to come up with an image of the corridor, considering the physical, environmental, social and cultural attributes and the standard of living of local community. Benchmarking will also be done with similar Indian or foreign tourism corridors. Preparation of a 30-year macro-level plan for tourism development of the corridor will be the second objective and the third objective will be to prepare micro-level destination-development plan for five or six destinations in the corridor.
