Lonely Planet, world's most trusted travel brand, presented its first-ever 'Lonely Planet Magazine India Travel Awards 2012', showcasing the experiences most loved by travellers in India.
Kerala was awarded with the 'Best Destination for Families' in India. Mr. Prasanth N. IAS, Managing Director, Kerala Tourism Development Corporation received the award from Mr. Karan Johar, Bollywood filmmaker at a function held in Mumbai.
Lonely Planet Magazine India is the Indian edition of Lonely Planet Magazine, the most recognised travel magazine in the United Kingdom. The winners were selected by travellers who voted for best destinations, hotels and travel service providers they preferred; voting both online and through the magazine.
Lonely Planet, which is arguably the biggest travel brand in the world, has been encouraging people to travel and experience new places and cultures for many decades now. The 39 awards presented were in three major categories viz. Destinations, Hospitality and Travel service providers (including airlines, travel portals and tour operators); both in the domestic and international spheres.
Switzerland has been selected as 'India's Favourite Destination', while Jammu & Kashmir has been chosen as the 'Best Emerging Destination in India' and Fiji in the Pacific as the 'Best Emerging International Destination'.
