Beautification of Varkala, Ponmudi and Akkulam tourist village
Beautification of helipad area at the famed Varkala beach, a four-star guest house in Ponmudi and an edutainment-cum-leisure enclave at Akkulam tourist village are among the Kerala Tourism's destination development initiatives for major tourist spots in the capital district of Thiruvananthapuram.
The beautification of the helipad area at Varkala beach, a favourite among tan-seekers, will be taken up at a cost of Rs.13.6 million. Tensile structures, seating arrangements for tourists, e-toilets and an open-air theatre with a seating capacity of 200 are also included in the project.
Tourists boat services from Kappil backwaters to Hariharapuram near Varkala will be introduced. Arivalam and Rathikkal, two seaside tourist spots will be developed as part of the destination development plan.
A four-star guest house will come up in the hill station of Ponmudi. This Rs.40 million lacs guest house will have 24 rooms with all modern facilities, including a banquet hall and a board room.
An 'edutainment-cum-leisure enclave' will be set up in the 2.5 acres of land atop the hillock in the Akkulam tourist village. An activity zone, creative zone, workshop zone, skill game arcade, fun zone, indoor golf simulator and an LED dance floor will come up in the enclave in stages. A 2.5 m wide walkway, a cycle track and four electronic skill games area has also been included in destination development plan. The first phase of development in Akkulam will cost Rs. 13.4 million and the second Rs. 21.5 million.
