Veli Tourist Village to say no to plastic

Veli Tourist Village one of the most frequented domestic tourist destinations in Kerala, will soon become a plastic-free destination. Visitors will not be allowed to carry plastic bags or containers into the park. Drinking water fountains would be provided to discourage visitors from carrying bottled water into the park.

Kerala Tourism which manages the destination has proposed to develop the children's park and also to extend the existing walkway. KTDC which operates the water sports activities at Veli has decided to purchase three each speedboats, pedal and safari boats for boating.

The estuary here is devoid of any tree cover and Kerala Tourism, as part of it latest development proposal at Veli Tourist Village, would undertake planting of salt-resistant tree species like casuarina (Casuarina equisetifolia), punnai (Calophyllum inophyllum), ezha chembakam (plumeria) and cheelanthi (Hibiscus populneus) to provide shade to visitors without impeding the view of the lagoon and the sea.

Veli Tourist Village in Thiruvananthapuram attracts hundreds of visitors each day.
