The tourist information centres of Kerala Tourism in the State and in the metro cities of Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai will soon turn out as one-stop info centres for tourists. These centres will be branded and made tourist-friendly as part of providing world class services to the visitors.
After the revamp, each of these centres in the State and metro cities will have a kiosk for downloading publicity material, display of maps featuring tourist attractions, an information panel, a souvenir shop for selling approved souvenirs and Internet facility.
Once the branding exercise is in place the information centres at Park View in Thiruvananthapuram, Kovalam, Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, Alappuzha railway station, Fort Kochi, Cochin International Airport, Munnar, Kumily, Kozhikode railway station and the information centres in four metros will have a common appeal.
"We will commence with the revamping of the information centres at the famed beach of Kovalam and Fort Kochi followed by those in other cities. The design for the centres is ready and the software for kiosks has been developed. The attempt is to make the information centres activity-based rather than confining them to distribute publicity materials" said Ms. Rani George, Director, Kerala Tourism. The visitors can download the publicity materials free-of-cost from these centres.
The information centres will be computerized and private tour operators and hoteliers in their locations will be twined in so that the services offered by them can be made easily accessible for the tourists. And also tickets for local tours conducted as part of Responsible Tourism (RT) initiative as organized in Kovalam will be made available through the information centres.
Those posted at the information centres and personnel manning the counters will be given training by the Kerala Tourism to make these centres visitor-friendly. The revamped tourist information centres will be ready within six months.
