The first phase of Alappuzha Mega Tourism Project will be completed in three years, said Mr. K. C. Venugopal, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation. The first phase of the project will bring in developments worth Rs.522.5 million through projects planned from Aroorkutty in the north to Kayamkulam in the south of Alappuzha district. The Central government has sanctioned a financial assistance of Rs.476.2 million for the Alappuzha project.
The highlight of the Alappuzha Mega Tourism Project will be the setting up of seven houseboat terminals at selected places. Aroorkutty, Thanneermukkom, Pallathuruthy, Nedumudi, Kanjipadam, Thottappally and Kayamkulam are the places selected for the purpose. Night-halt terminals will come up Vattakayal in Nedumudi and Vilakkumaram in Karumadi. Other developmental plans included are at Arthungal and Thottappally beaches.
