'Take-a-break' amenity centre at Kattampally in Kannur

Published in Newsletter Issue No. 241 - September 2013

Kerala Tourism’s project for developing wayside amenity centres will give Kattampally in Kannur district a new look. Named as ‘Take-a-break,’ the project will develop a picnic spot near the Kattampally Bridge. Once the project is realized, the catchment of the Kattampally River, a tributary of the Valapattanam River and the marshy wetlands on either side form a perfect backdrop for picnickers.

The project prepared by the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) Kannur, focuses on the renovation of the boat jetty and a children’s park in Kattampally. Besides, the project also includes the development of boating facility, lighting, interpretation centre, cafeteria, utility shop, landscaping, seating arrangements, paved walkway, parking area and signage. A tourism information centre, toilet facilities, food outlet and accommodation has also been included in the developmental activities.

According to the proposed project, Kannur DTPC will operate the project by itself by leasing out its components to competent agencies or individuals. The income from leasing out the cafeteria, boating and parking lot will be used for running the amenity centre.
