In a first of sorts by a tourism board in the country, Kerala Tourism has chosen the virtual world to launch its path-breaking Great Backwaters campaign. The campaign exclusively for the backwaters of Kerala would be an experience of a lifetime, akin to the Great Wall of China or the Grand Canyon.
As part of the campaign, a separate micro-site – www.greatbackwaters.com has been developed for highlighting the vast network of backwater canals and lakes, the images of which have been taken aerially. The new campaign for backwaters has been well received by fans of Kerala Tourism on Twitter and Facebook.
“The backwaters of Kerala are not about houseboats alone. It is about discovering a fascinating water world unlike any other on our planet,” said Mr. A. P. Anilkumar, Minister for Tourism.
“It is a tribute to the millions of travellers across the world who embrace technology everyday for knowing about and visiting their favourite destinations. The campaign has resorted to a technology, which has never been attempted in Kerala or in the country for promoting a destination,” said Mr. Suman Billa, Secretary, Kerala Tourism.
“Kerala Tourism has always been in the forefront in digitally promoting destinations in the State through new and innovative technology. The launch of the Great Backwaters campaign on the social media before any other medium is yet another demonstration of our commitment to connect with the fans of God’s Own Country wherever they are,” said Mr. S. Harikishore, Director, Kerala Tourism.
The Great Backwaters campaign launched on Twitter and Facebook will be followed by its release in the traditional media, both nationally and internationally towards the end of this month. Kerala Tourism is offering souvenirs of the State as prizes to two winners from the tweets every day. The campaign has been conceived by Stark Communications for Kerala Tourism.
