Coir products should keep pace with changing times and consumer preferences, said Mr. Vayalar Ravi, Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs at the valedictory of 'Coir Kerala 2013' held in Alappuzha recently. The minister, in his address to the participants of the annual international event on coir and natural fibres, called for more innovations in the sector.
Mr. Adoor Prakash, Revenue and Coir Minister said the State Government has sanctioned Rs 5.12 crore as increased working capital assistance for co-operatives in the sector.
The third edition of Coir Kerala organized by the Department of Coir Development witnessed the participation of exhibitors and delegates from over 40 countries. The stalls exhibited latest coir and natural fibre products, processing machineries and technologies.
Mrs. K.R. Gowri Amma, Former Minister, Ms Rani George, Coir Secretary and Tourism Director, Dr. K. Madanan, Director, Coir Development Department, Mr. P. Venugopal, District Collector and Ms. Mercy Diana Macido Municipal Chairperson attended the function.
