Kerala Tourism keen to have more of Uncle Sam

Riding on a spurt in European visitors to the State, Kerala Tourism is looking across the Atlantic to significantly increase the number of foreign arrivals from the United States of America to Kerala.

The Kerala Tourism delegation to the US held three road shows in major cities of the US in its efforts to make a credible presence in the US market. The first road show was held in New York, followed by Chicago, while the third was held in Los Angeles.

“The United States is the fourth major market for Kerala Tourism after the United Kingdom, France and Germany. An increase in arrival of visitors from the biggest economy in the world will be a significant factor for the growth of tourism in the State,” said Mr. A. P. Anilkumar, Minister for Tourism, who led the delegation of government and industry representatives from Kerala.

Ms. Preneet Kaur, Minister of State for External Affairs, attended the road show in New York that witnessed the participation of 58 members from the US travel and tourism trade sector. The highlight of the event was a presentation on top tourist attractions in ‘God’s Own Country’ by Mr. Suman Billa, Secretary, Kerala Tourism.

“Americans are one of the top globe trotters and therefore it is only logical for Kerala Tourism to make its presence felt in a big way in the United States,” said Mr. Suman Billa.

This was the first time that Kerala Tourism had organized road shows in the United States. The trade participation as part of the Kerala delegation to the US included Kumarakom Lake Resort, RAXA Collective, Intersight Tours and Travels, Kerala.com Travel Division, The Travel Planners, Lotus DMC Pvt. Ltd, Easy Tours of India and Ayurveda Mana Properties.

Air India sponsored free economy class round-trip tickets to the winners of lucky draws held at each venue of the road shows. The lucky draw winners will get a free 10-day holiday package in Kerala.
