Kumarakom to host RT conference
Kerala Tourism, in association with the Responsible Tourism School of Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies (KITTS) will hold the third edition of the International Conference on Responsible Tourism at Kumarakom on 27th and 28th of June 2013. The theme of the conference is "Responsible Tourism: Looking Back, Moving Ahead".
The conference will discuss the latest advances in the field of RT across the world and look into the progress Kerala made after the second edition held at Cochin in March 2008. The conference will have parallel sessions on economic responsibility, socio-cultural responsibility and environmental responsibility on 28th June 2013. As part of the event, on 29th June 2013, Kumarakom will be declared as a global RT destination and a field trip is also being arranged on the day to visit the RT initiatives at Kumarakom.
The participants of the event include Dr. Harold Goodwin (Professor in Responsible Tourism Management and Director at Leeds Metropolitan University and Director ICRT), Mr. Mason Florence (Executive Director, Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office), Mr. Srilal Miththapala (Project Director, SWITCH Asia Greening Sri Lanka Hotels Project, Ceylon Chamber of Commerce), Dr. Karma Tshering (Chief, Nature, Recreation & Ecotourism Division (NRED), Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, Bhutan), Mr. Christian Rogerson (Professor, School of Tourism and Hospitality, University of Johannesburg, South Africa), Mr. Adama Bah (Travel Foundation Programme Manager, Gambia) and Mr. Suman Billa (Secretary, Kerala Tourism).
