Kochi will soon become the first destination in Kerala to offer seaplane service, Mr. A.P. Anilkumar, Minister for Tourism, Kerala, said. He was speaking after inaugurating the visitor-facilitation centre of the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) in Kochi recently.
Prof. K.V. Thomas, Union Minister of State for Food and Public Distribution was the chief guest at the function.

Mr. A. P. Anilkumar said that the first phase of seaplane project will commence at Bolgatty to be followed by Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha. A service-counter of the seaplane service will be opened at the new visitor-facilitation centre.

"The opening of the facilitation centre is a step towards the government's aim to develop Kochi as a tourism and commercial hub," said Mr. A. P. Anilkumar.

The centre will offer facilities including foreign exchange, inbound and outbound counters for tourism packages, mini interpretation room, ATM, railway reservation counter and modern toilets.

In the next phase, the centre will become a turn-around hub, facilitating tourists to travel to different places in the country, the minister said. An MoU in this regard was signed between the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) Hotels & Resorts, Thenmala Eco Tourism Promotion Board, Kerala Forest Development Corporation and the Kerala State Inland Navigation Corporation.
