The first phase of developmental works included in the Alappuzha Mega Tourism Project would be completed within a year, said Mr. A.P Anil Kumar, Minister for Tourism, Kerala at a press meet held in Thiruvananthapuram. The mega tourism project is a joint initiative of the Central and State governments with an estimated cost of Rs.522.5 million.
As part of the project, the development of backwater tourism circuit that aims to link various inland water sources to form a well-connected tourism circuit is progressing. Other major works ongoing as part of the mega project are the construction of houseboat terminals at Arookutty, Thanneermukkom, Pallathuruthy, Nedumudi, Kanjipadam, Thottappally and Kayamkulam.
The proposed night-halt terminals are also coming up at Vattakayal in Nedumudi and Vilakkumaram in Karumadi. The development of micro tourism destinations connected with the circuit at Vayamkarachira, Pandy, Thazhuppu and Kuthiravattomchira are also underway.
