In order to meet the increasing demand for eco, adventure, wildlife and pilgrimage tourism in the State, Kerala Tourism is gearing up for the launch of caravan tourism. A niche tourism product, which aims to promote family-oriented tours, caravan tourism involves visiting and staying in remote areas, forests and riversides, where there is shortage of quality accommodation.
Popular across the globe, caravan tourism provides freedom and flexibility to the tourists. Security, parking spaces, restrooms, restaurants, electricity and water connection will be made available to caravan tourists as part of the tour.
Kerala Tourism Infrastructure Limited (KTIL), a government undertaking will promote caravan tourism initially in the properties of the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC), Forest Department and the Kerala Forest Development Corporation (KFDC). Tamarind Easy hotels, budget hotels and motels of the KTDC; properties at Gavi, Nelliampathy, Silent Valley, Meesapulimala, Wagamon, Purekkad, and Kambamala of the KFDC; Athirappilly, Vazhachal, Parambikulam, Arippa and Muthanga of the Forest Department will be considered for the new venture.
