Kerala Tourism in its attempt to give more exposure to the beaches in Malappuram district has initiated a coastal tourism circuit. As a result, the beautification of Ottumpuram beach near Tanur in the district has been completed and inaugurated by Minister for Tourism Mr. A. P. Anilkumar. The facilities here include canopied pavilions for sunset watching, toilets, utility shops, amphitheatre, food courts and a walkway. Rs. 7 million was spent for the beautification of this beach. The second phase of coastal tourism circuit will witness developments worth Rs. 14 million.
The coastal tourism circuit that is currently on in Malappuram is intended for enhancing the overall tourism potential of the district, the attractions of which also include Canolly Canal, Poorapuzha, Kadalundi Community Reserve, Chamravattom project, Padinjarekkara tourism project, Biyyam Canal and Ottummal.
