Kerala is home to a healthy population of elephants. And for those who would like to have more authentic awareness on this gentle giant can join Kerala Tourism’s 'Gaja Vijnanolsavam' (Elephant-Knowledge Fest). Scheduled to commence on the 5th of September the programme will be held in-and-around the premises of the elephant shelter at Konni in the district of Pathanamthitta in association with the Forest Department.

The ‘Elephant-Knowledge Fest’ is intended for providing all relevant information about elephants. The fest will have two daily classes by experts, seminar on the nuances of taking care of domesticated and wildlife elephants and screening of films with elephant-centric themes. There will also be a painting competition for children as part of the event. Staging of cultural events from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on festival days will be another attraction.

The event will also have shower-bath sessions of elephants, display of traditional adornments of domesticated elephants, elephant ride and opportunities to take snaps and video. One can also visit the 12 stalls that would be set up as part of the festival, based on value-added products. Also part of the fest are the full skeletal structure of elephant, the paper manufacturing unit based on elephant dung and rare pictures of elephant-capturing.

The fest will be on till the 9th of September and will remain open to the public from 9 in the morning to 9 in the evening.
