To take care of the needs of travellers on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border, Kerala Tourism has set up a new tourist facilitation centre at Karali near Parasala in Thiruvananthapuram. It is a drive-in-tourist facilitation centre, set up on 53 cents of land owned by Kerala Tourism, situated by the side of National Highway 66.

Inaugurated by Mr. A. P. Anilkumar, Minister for Tourism the 4500 sq. ft. centre has two dining halls; one of them is air-conditioned, which can accommodate 100 diners. The restaurant here – Udaya Surya – will function from six in the morning to midnight. A separate toilet block and ample parking space, convenient even for stage carriers are available here.

Minister for Tourism also inaugurated a handloom village that has come up at Manchavilakom, on the Salem-Kanyakumari Highway, near Parasala. The handloom village constructed by Kerala Tourism in association with the Ecotex Handloom Consortium enables visitors to see the entire process of handloom weaving. Sale of handloom textiles and display of products have also been arranged here.
