Painted Watercrafts Await Travellers

Get ready for a delightful cruise in the backwaters of Kochi on boats the exteriors of which carry paintings by noted artists. Launched by Kerala Tourism, the Hop-on Hop-off service will have three water taxis, operating from Marine Drive in Kochi.

A novel initiative of Kerala Tourism and Kerala Tourism Infrastructure Ltd. (KTIL), these air-conditioned boats and water taxies are much faster than the ferries and can carry upto 25 persons and six persons at a time respectively.

The bigger vessels will operate circular trips on the Marine Drive-Willington Island-Fort Kochi-Vypeen-Bolgatty Island route every hour from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The fare for the same is Rs. 350 per person and guests can board the vessels any number of times in a day. Each water taxi can be hired for approximately Rs. 4,000 per hour and it will take guests to destinations of their choice, including Kumarakom and Alappuzha.

“Paintings by renowned artists adorn their exterior and this has made the vessels moving art galleries. This service will soon be launched in the Muziris Heritage site also,” said Mr. Suman Billa, Secretary, Kerala Tourism.
