The commencement of work for a Handloom Village at Azhikode was inaugurated on 5th January 2015. The handloom village is the second such project in the State. The first one was at Balaramapuram in Thiruvananthapuram district.
Inaugurating the works at Azhikode, Mr. A. P. Anilkumar, Minister for Tourism, Kerala said, “The project was essential for the district known as a land of looms. The rural vistas and indigenous crafts of the State give novel experiences to tourists from abroad. The government is conceiving tourism projects such as the handloom village to cater to the tastes of foreign tourists, who love the culture and lifestyle of the State.”
