New Lease of Life for Handicraft Tourism

Handicraft production and marketing possibilities of Kerala will be utilised for the promotion of handicraft tourism in foreign countries. The international handicrafts fair planned at the Sargaalaya Crafts Village at Iringal in Kozhikode district, as part of the latest edition of the Grand Kerala Shopping Festival (GKSF) is the first step in tapping the handicrafts potential of Kerala.

“The highlight of this edition of the GKSF will be to make shopping an integral part of sightseeing for tourists arriving in the State. It will also have innovative schemes to attract shoppers,” said Mr. A. P. Anilkumar, Minister for Tourism, Kerala.

“The common man should also benefit from Kerala Tourism’s projects. The government is also contemplating a tourism circuit connecting various destinations in Malabar, with Iringal as its focus”, said Mr. A. P. Anilkumar.

The international crafts fair with more than 250 stalls featuring handicraft products from all over the country besides Indonesia, Sri Lanka and other nations will be held from 20th December 2015 to 5th January 2016.

The ninth edition of GKSF is set to be integrated with Kerala Tourism’s campaign ‘Visit Kerala 2015’.
