Kerala Tourism's International Photography Contest

Kerala Tourism has launched an ‘International Photography Contest’ through its website - www.keralatourism.org inviting worldwide entries, which will focus on the State’s tourism potential. The entry that bags the first prize will get Rs. 0.05 million and entries coming second and third will get Rs. 0.03 million and Rs. 0.02 million respectively. Plus, there are five consolation prizes of Rs. 0.01 million each.

“It’s for the first time we are coming out with a contest endowed with such huge amounts as prize money,” said Mr. A. P. Anilkumar, Minister for Tourism, Kerala.

“This competition that attracts participants from across the globe will further expand the State’s tourism market and encourage more visitors to explore our land,” said Mr. G. Kamala Vardhana Rao, Secretary, Kerala Tourism.

Mr. P. I. Sheik Pareeth, Director, Kerala Tourism noted: "Nearly 10 million people visit the State every year. Of these, many are photography enthusiasts."

Each contestant can submit a maximum of three entries. The photographs should be original, taken between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2015 and the participant should hold its copyright. Digitally manipulated photographs will be disqualified. The submissions must have at least 1000 pixels, but should not exceed 3000 pixels in either height or width. They should be saved as JPEG (.jpg) and should not exceed 4 MB per file at 72 dpi resolution. The selected images, which will depict Kerala in multiple perspectives, will find a place in Kerala Tourism’s image bank.

Kerala, known for its varied topography and colourful festivals has always served as a photographer’s paradise. Considered as one of the destinations with highest brand recall, the tropical and green southern Indian State of Kerala has already made its mark in the international tourism map.

The competition that ends on 31 December 2015 will give visitors to the website, an opportunity to submit their ratings on the photographs submitted as part of the contest.
