QR Code Aided Tourism Search Launched

Published in Newsletter Issue No. 259 - March 2015

In an effort to ease travel planning for holidayers, Kerala Tourism has introduced an innovative tool, a Quick Response (QR) Code Aided Tourism Search, which makes it easier for travellers to find destinations and information on the Kerala Tourism website.

It is the first of its kind in India. “This technology will enable visitors to Kerala overcome difficulties in getting to their destinations. They will be able to not just get there, but also to learn many interesting things about the place without any external help,” said Mr. A. P. Anilkumar, Minister for Tourism, Kerala.

The new facility has been rolled out, since smart-phones have started playing a key role in travel planning, offering a high degree of convenience and affordability. QR Code Aided Tourism Search optimizes the interactive features of the www.keralatourism.org website.

"Kerala Tourism has already established hundreds of QR coded signboards across the State. Travellers can scan the QR code using a smart-phone or a tab which has a QR code reader. The QR code would also be carried on tourism related magazines and brochures," said Ms. Anupama T. V., Additional Director, Kerala Tourism. "Travellers can select the radius of the location, which they wish to know about. The predetermined distance varies from 2 to 50 kilometers," she added.

The QR Code Aided Tourism Search has been developed by Invis Multimedia, the IT solution provider of Kerala Tourism.
