Network of refreshment centres on the anvil
Kerala Tourism has plans to establish a State wide network of roadside refreshment centres under the brand name ‘Take-a-Break’. Mr. A.P. Anilkumar, Minister for Tourism, Kerala announced that 20 such outlets would be opened by January 2016. Each centre is expected to be equipped with toilets, a snack bar, ATM counter and a parking lot for travellers to take a break and refresh themselves between long journeys.
The proposed ‘Take-a-Break’ centres will be at Chathannur, Chavara, Haripad, Cherthala, Ernakulam, Chalakudy, Koottanad, Munnar, Kottarakara, Konni, Thalayazham, Malloorpady, Malappuram, Kottakunnu, Thamarassery Ghat Road, North Paravur, Ambalavayal, and Thalappady. One such centre is already functional at Shankhumughom.
Guruvayur, Athirappilly, Idukki and Kanyakumari will have new ‘Yatri Nivas’ complexes to provide accommodation at affordable rates. Kerala Tourism will also start a facilitation centre at the elephant rehabilitation centre at Kottoor in Thiruvananthapuram.
