New Strategies to Attract more Domestic Tourists

As part of Kerala Tourism’s plans to attract domestic tourists, discussions will soon be held with the Indian Railways and airline companies to chalk out the ways and strategies. The efforts to boost the figures of domestic tourists will see the District Tourism Promotion Councils (DTPC) getting reconstituted with structural reforms. Plans are afoot to develop the Konni Elephant Rehabilitation Centre and Adavi Tourist Centre simultaneously.

Responding to the initiative Mr. A. C.Moideen, Minister for Tourism, Kerala said: “Projects will be launched in association with local self-governments to make tourist destinations garbage-free.”

Kerala Tourism has been sanctioned an amount of Rs. 992.1 million for tourism developments under the Swadesh Darsan Scheme, Ministry for Tourism, Government of India.

Development of the Eco Tourism Circuit including Wagamon, Thekkady and Gavi is underway and the development of the Spiritual Tourism Circuit including the Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram and Sabarimala at Pathanamthitta is under consideration.

A tourism corridor will be formed with seven panchayats in Kozhikode district. Funds will be sought from the anti-recession package announced in the budget to develop Irunnootti at Meenmutty in Wayanad district.
