A New Cruise Service for the Capital City

Soon one will get to relax in ‘shikharas’ and glide along the backwaters of the capital city with the launch of a new cruise service in the backwater stretch between Kadinamkulam and Akathumuri. Mr. Kadakampally Surendran, Minister for Tourism, Kerala has announced the project which will utilise the backwater tourism potential of Thiruvananthapuram.

The backwater tourism circuit will link Kadinamkulam, Anchuthengu and Akathumuri lakes. The route of the boat service is Kadinamkulam - Perumathura - Anchuthengu - Kayikkara - Ponnumthuruthu - Panayilkkadavu - Akathumuri. 

Floating jetties will be set up at Perumathura, Anchuthengu, Kayikkara, Ponnumthuruthu, Panayilkadavu and Akathumuri and a boat terminal shall be set up at Kadinamkulam. The project is envisaged to be implemented by the District Tourism Promotion Council, Thiruvananthapuram. 

A houseboat service will also be started in the route. Stringent measures will be put in place to check the pollution of waterbodies and boats shall be equipped with bio-toilets.

The Minister has further said that the service will be extended to Kappil in Thiruvananthapuram later.
