A River Cruise to Connect 11 Districts
Kerala is all set to develop an extensive river cruise network that will link the 11 districts in the State. The project which is to be supervised by Chief Minister Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan is envisaged to be completed by 2020.
The River Cruise Tourism project which targets high spending tourists is a 450-km waterway from Hosdurg in north Kerala to Kovalam in the south. The State government has given its nod for the formation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV).
The Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) will execute the project by forming an SPV.
Once the project is materialised, travellers could use the water cruise to reach select tourist destinations. Of now only the 205-km long Kottapuram-Kollam national waterway is ready and for the completion of the project, a 26 km waterway has to be developed in north Kerala.
