Kerala Tourism to Create 22 Micro-Forests

Kerala Tourism is all set to create 22 micro-forests in tourist destinations in 12 districts following the Miyawaki method of afforestation.

As many as 30,000 saplings are expected to be planted in 1.84 acres using the Akira Miyawaki method of afforestation. The micro-forests are being planted in an attempt to increase green cover in the destinations.

Two micro-forests each are being planned in 10 districts while one each is being planned in Thiruvananthapuram and Pathanamthitta. In the initial phase, Wayanad and Idukki have been left out as these districts already have a good forest cover. The different pieces of land in each district will be identified by Kerala Tourism, and indigenous varieties of saplings will be planted.
