The third phase of ‘Arteria Fresco project’, which aims at beautifying city spaces, started in the capital city. In this phase, murals will come up along the Akkulam bypass at Kuzhivila Junction, St Joseph’s School, the Museum and the Palayam underpass.

Tourism Minister Mr P. A. Mohamed Riyas said the state government is considering extending the Arteria project to other districts. The artworks are not only to improve the beauty of city but also to make visitors feel positive.

The Tourism Department is implementing the project in association with the District Tourism Promotional Council. Arteria is aimed at converting walls and fences of public, private and cooperative entities into canvases of creativity. The first two phases were in 2015 and 2016, and it resulted in 25-odd paintings by as many artists. It also succeeded in completing a work by renowned artist K. G. Subramanyan (1924-2016) without the supervision of the master.

In January this year, the paintings under Arteria were refurbished as the works had dulled over the years.
