Beypore International Water Festival to be held in December

The Kerala government has decided to organise a month-long ‘Beypore International Water Fest’ in Kozhikode district in December this year. Diverse water sports and entertainment events will be arranged along a 10-km stretch of water from Beypore Pulimutt tourism centre. 

The Tourism Department will involve other departments, local bodies and the district administration of Kozhikode to hold the festival, Tourism Minister Mr P. A. Mohamed Riyas said. All the possibilities of water sports will be explored during the festival, the minister added. 

All the activities will primarily be organized on the Chaliyar River. Traditional boat races of Kerala will be a key element of the festival. Kayaking, canoeing, water polo, parasailing, speed boat racing, water skiing, powerboat racing, yacht racing, wooden log racing and timber rafting will be part of the festival. Aquatic events that are part of the Olympics will be also be included. 

To up the entertainment quotient of the event, floating musical programmes, light shows and processions by fishing folk will be organized during the festival. 

Nehru Trophy Boat Race to be held this year
Tourism Minister Mr P. A, Mohamed Riyas said that the Nehru Trophy Boat Race will be held this year. The boat race could not be held last year due to the pandemic. 

Though the boat race was postponed in 2018 and 2019, it was held at a later date.
