KTDC Resort to come up near Drive-in Beach at Muzhappilangad
The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) will construct a premium (5-star) resort adjoining Asia’s longest drive-in beach at Muzhappilangad in the Kannur district. The Chief Minister Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan laid the foundation stone on October 30.
Coming up on 3.96 acres, the resort will have 40 rooms, including eight suites, a swimming pool, spa and restaurants in the first phase. The resort is expected to come up in 18 months. In the second phase, a convention centre is proposed across 9.5 acres on the campus.
The Tourism Department Deputy Director P.V. Prashanth said the KTDC has played a key role in developing tourist destinations such as Kovalam and Thekkady. The new resort at Muzhappilangad will propel the development of tourism in north Malabar.
Located about 7 km from Thalassery, Muzhappilangad Beach is the only drive-in beach in Kerala. The spot is also a delight for foodies as there are a host of shacks selling authentic Malabar cuisine. Also, it is often considered a swimmers’ paradise as the black rocks protect the beach from deep currents.
