Foundation stone laid for Pilgrim Amenity Centre at Vettucaud Church
The historical Madre De Deus Church in Vettucaud will now have more to offer pilgrims. Kerala Tourism Minister Mr. Kadakampally Surendran laid the foundation stone for the Rs 3-crore pilgrim amenity centre at the church, earlier in March.
The facility is part of the Pilgrim Circuit, which has been launched by the Department of Tourism to promote pilgrim tourism in the state capital. Amenity centres have been envisaged to provide basic facilities for pilgrims visiting the places of worship across the state. The project Pilgrim Circuit connects various pilgrim centres of different faiths.
Delivering his address, Mr. Surendran said a string of projects has been launched in different parts of the state to step up infrastructural facilities for the growth of tourism. He further added that it was for the first time that efforts were taken to set up infrastructural facilities at the places of worship.
Similar projects will come up in different parts of Thiruvananthapuram district including those at Aniyoor, auditoriums at Aliyavoor Siva Temple and Sri Durga Temple at Kallampally, Pilgrim Heritage Circuit at Kolathukara, destination facilities at Manvila, amenity centres at Beemapally, St Jude Pilgrim Centre at Vettinadu, Kusamuttam Temple, Chellamangalam Temple, Avukkulam Temple and Puthukkunnu CSI Church.
