Tourist Inflow to State has Improved, says Tourism Minister Mr. P. A. Mohamed Riyas
Tourism Minister Mr. P. A. Mohamed Riyas has said the bio-bubble system and the project to totally vaccinate a destination have helped the state tourism sector reclaim its tourist inflow. During the time of crisis the focus of the state government was on instilling confidence in the sector so as to help it overcome the challenges, he told the Assembly.
The minister said several programmes were implemented with the objective of ‘Safe Kerala and Safe Tourism’ to bring back tourists.
As part of this, Vythiri in Wayanad district became the first fully-vaccinated destination in the state. This was expanded to other places and most of the tourism destinations in the state have achieved the target now, the minister said in the Assembly.
Reflecting the success of the policy, Wayanad recorded an increase in tourist footfall. Other destinations in the state have also recorded an increase in the number of tourists.
Innovative projects such as ‘Caravan Tourism,’ launched by the department, and the farm tourism network, a programme intended to tap the potential of agriculture tourism, are expected to revive the sector, he added.
