Kerala Tourism's prestigious annual traditional arts festival ‘Utsavam’ got off to a vibrant start in the state. The festival which is a celebration of art and culture has secured the participation of exponents and troupes of folk, tribal and ritualistic art forms.
Inaugurating the festival at the Nishagandhi auditorium in the capital, Tourism Minister Mr Kadakampally Surendran said the aim of the festival is to preserve the rich and diverse art forms of Kerala at a time when most of them are fading into oblivion. Leading folklore artistes from various traditions were honoured with the 'Utsavam Puraskaram' at the function. The ‘Utsavam’ Signature song, rendered by noted singer Mr. Kavalam Sreekumar was also launched at the inaugural event.
The festival is being held at 30 venues across the state and is organised by Kerala Tourism along with the Kerala Folklore Academy, Bharat Bhavan and District Tourism Promotion Councils.
The event is aimed at sustaining and popularising the traditional art forms of the state, some of which are on the verge of decline. The one-week festival is being held in venues across all the districts of the state. Each venue will host two art performances every day. The programme is jointly conducted by Kerala Tourism and District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC).
