Vythiri Vaccinates all in the Tourism Sector

Vythiri Grama Panchayat in Wayanad district has vaccinated all stakeholders in the tourism industry, making it the first local body in the state to achieve the feat.

The vaccination drive at Vythiri was part of a programme to transform Kerala into a safe tourism destination during the pandemic period. The Tourism Department joined hands with the Health Department and NGO Doctors for You to conduct the campaign. Mobile vaccination units were also pressed into service. 

Around 4,900 people consisting of taxi and auto drivers, employees in hotels, resorts, homestays and serviced villas, tourist guides, porters and traders in 14 wards of the grama panchayat were given at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine.

Ranked among the best picnic spots in the state, Vythiri hill station is famous for its spice plantations, beautiful forests and the diverse traditions of its tribal communities. Karalad Lake, Lakkidi and Pookot Lake are some of the popular destinations near Vythiri. 

The Tourism Minister Mr. P. A. Mohammed Riyas said the total vaccination drive will inspire confidence among tourists and give a boost to the revival of pandemic-hit tourism industry. Mr. Riyas said the safe tourism campaign will be extended to Meppadi in Wayanad, Munnar, Thekkady, Fort Kochi, Kumarakom, Kovalam and Varkala.
