Tourism Minister Mr. P.A. Mohamed Riyas has launched a comprehensive tourism development project for Beypore under the aegis of the Responsible Tourism Mission. The project will result in economic development, a better standard of life, and empowerment of all sections in Beypore, the minister said.

Mr. Riyas said Beypore was the gateway to India once and a commercial hub of Malabar. The tile factories, bird sanctuary, estuary, and mangrove forests, the Uru industry, cultural attractions, among others will be part of it.

The project was started in July 2021, and officials of the Responsible Tourism Mission conducted fieldwork to collectdata. The declaration of Beypore as a Responsible Tourism Destination will be made in July 2024.

The RT Mission State Coordinator Mr. K. Roopesh Kumar said the rise in the tourism potential of the region will improve employment opportunities. “We need people to supply food, guides who can speak in the languages of tourists, homestays, and souvenir makers to cater to tourists,” he said.

The Kadalundi grama panchayat president Ms. V.S. Anusha presided over the event. Mayor Ms. Beena Philip and District Collector Mr. N. Tej Lohit Reddy were guests of honour.

The Tourism Minister said a memorial for writer Vaikom Muhammed Basheer will soon be a reality as the Tourism Department has joined hands with the Kozhikode Corporation for its implementation. This memorial will be a key part of the Literary Tourism Circuit that the government had announced in the budget.
