Kerala to celebrate Onam in a big way this Season
After two years of pandemic-induced lull, Kerala will celebrate Onam in a big way this year. The state government-sponsored Onam celebrations will be held in all the districts of the state, apart from a Loka Pookkalam contest and other events.
After a break of three years due to the pandemic, annual Onam Week celebrations will be organized on a grand scale from September 6 to 12. Thiruvananthapuram alone will host events in 30 venues. The Chief Minister Mr Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the state-level celebrations at Nishagandhi Auditorium in Thiruvananthapuram on September 6. The week-long celebrations will conclude with vibrant pageantry from Vellayambalam to East Fort on September 12.
Loka Pookkalam (Global Pookkalam Competition) will be held from August 17 (the first day of the Malayalam month of Chingam) to September 16. The online contest is divided into two categories - one for people residing in Kerala and the other for those outside the state. The best floral carpets in each category will get exciting prizes.
