Renovated Pazhassi Raja Museum opened
The Minister for Ports and Museums Ahammad Devarkovil has opened the renovated Pazhassi Raja Archaeological Museum at East Hill in Kozhikode district. The minister said the government was modernizing museums to be in tune with new ideas, and funds released by the central and state governments were used for the renovation.
The building that houses the museum was constructed in the 19th century. It was the official residence of the District Collector of Malabar. The museum displays cultural exhibits and artefacts from the Stone Age to the British colonial period. Previously displayed archaeological items are retained in the renovated museum along with the newly excavated artefacts from Tippu Fort at Feroke. A library comprising literature on archaeological sources and monuments and a dedicated space for experimenting with traditional sand calligraphy are other key additions to the museum.
