CBL-3 Off to a Thrilling Start, Veeyapuram Chundan Wins Inaugural Race

The third edition of the Champions Boat League (CBL) has got off on a thrilling note at Marine Drive in Kochi. Scores of race buffs and foreign tourists cheered on as Pallathuruthy Boat Club’s Veeyapuram Chundan emerged victorious in the first round.

Nadubhagam Chundan and Niranam Chundan gave a tight race but Veeyapuram Chundan, basking in the glory of the Nehru trophy, proved too good. Pallathuruthy Boat Club has set off on a winning note as it aims to hit a hat trick. The club won the trophy in 2019 and 2022. A mass drill accompanied by Vanchipattu songs added a festive mood to the occasion. The Tourism Minister P. A. Mohamed Riyas inaugurated the CBL-3.

The boat race, organised by the state government, carries a cash prize of Rs 5.95 crore. Modelled on the Indian Premier League (IPL), the CBL held races in Kottappuram (September 23), Piravom (September 30), and will hold races in Kottayam (October 07), Pulinkunnu (October 14), Kainakary (October 21), Karuvatta (October 28), Kayamkulam (November 18), Kallada (November 25), and Pandanad (December 02). The season will conclude with the President’s Trophy boat race on December 9 in Kollam.
