Vembanad Lake Makes the Perfect Backdrop for Manchester City's Glories
The English Premier League Club Manchester City raised a toast to Kerala's beautiful backwaters by posting an image of the Vembanad Lake on its social media handles. The image shows Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League trophies and the latest Super Cup trophies neatly arrayed against the backdrop of the tranquil waters of the Vembanad Lake in Kottayam bathed in sunset glow as a boat cruises along. The image was posted in the wake of Manchester City’s Treble Trophy Tour to Kochi.
“The sun sets of Vembanad Lake in Kochi on our latest leg of the Treble Trophy Tour!” the post read, accompanied by an image of the Indian tricolour and a gold-coloured football cup.
The Tourism Minister P. A. Mohamed Riyas said that it was really exciting to have a prominent football club of the world come to Kerala with the coveted trophies they won recently. "Kerala can be really proud that Manchester City greatly appreciates the stunning beauty of Kerala and is unveiling it before the whole world," he said.
“Just as its unparalleled natural beauty, Kerala is also reputed for its love of football. The social media image is yet another instance of Kerala being marked firmly on the world tourism map. This reflects the big reputation our state enjoys in the West and other countries across the globe,” he added.
The participants of the Treble Trophy Tour will travel to Mumbai after they wrap up their activities in Kochi. A designated Ramsar site, the Vembanad is fed by ten rivers and is the largest tropical wetland ecosystem on the south-west coast of India. The lake is known for its rich biodiversity and aquatic resources.
