Eight Tourist Destinations to be developed to World-Class Standards
The State Budget 2023 has allocated Rs 362.15 crore to the tourism sector in Kerala, which is considered one of the pillars of the state economy. Converting eight tourist locations to world standards, launching a project titled ‘Work from Holiday Home’, and establishing a history museum at Kappad in Kozhikode are some of the initiatives announced in the budget for the tourism industry.
Finance Minister Mr K. N. Balagopal has announced a string of projects that are expected to resurrect and usher in significant changes to the state’s tourism industry.
The premier tourist spots of Kovalam, Alappuzha, Kumarakom, Kuttanad, Kollam Astamudi, Beypore, Bekal and Munnar will be transformed into experiential tourist spots, in tune with global standards. These locations will be connected to tourist corridors of the state and Rs 50 crore has been allotted for it. A total of Rs 7 crore has been granted for ecotourism projects, Rs 8 crore for traditional festivals and cultural programmes, Rs 7 crore for Kerala Travel Market and Rs 2 crore for Kochi-Muziris Biennale.
As part of the project titled ‘Work from Holiday Home’, facilities will be arranged at tourist places for people who have chosen ‘Work from Home’ option from their employers. A history museum at Kappad in Kozhikode and a museum at Kollam will be set up.
