Kumarakom and Beypore in Swadeshi Darshan scheme
Kumarakom and Beypore in Kerala have been included in the places shortlisted for the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme of the Union Ministry of Tourism. Earlier, the Gavi-Vagamon-Thekkady stretch was included under the eco circuit; Sabarimala-Erumeli-Pampa-Sannidhanam, Sree Parthasarathy at Aranmula and Sivagiri Sree Narayana Guru Ashram-Aruvippuram- Kunnumpara Sree Subrahmania-Chembazhanthi Sree Narayana Gurukulam under the spiritual circuit; and the Malanad Malabar Cruise Tourism Project under rural circuit, as part of the Swadesh Darshan scheme 1.0.
Kumarakom in Kottayam and Beypore in Kozhikode have been selected along with 34 other destinations from 19 states and Union Territories for development under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 Scheme.
Swadesh Darshan Scheme is a holistic mission to develop sustainable and responsible tourism destinations covering tourism and allied infrastructure, tourism services, human capital development, destination management and promotion, backed by policy and institutional reforms.
The village of Kumarakom is a cluster of little islands on the Vembanad lake and is part of the Kuttanad region. The bird sanctuary here, spread across 14 acres is a favourite haunt of migratory birds and an ornithologist's paradise. Beypore is a historic place located on the banks of the Chaliyar river in Kozhikode district. It is famous for its indigenous shipbuilding skills, its fishing harbour and port.
