10th Malabar River Festival Concludes with Kayak Cross Competitions
The 10th edition of the Malabar River Festival concluded in Kozhikode, with Shri Prithviraj Chavan from Karnataka and Ms Muskan from Uttarakhand winning the men’s and the women’s Kayak Cross Amateur competitions, respectively. Shri Rahul Bhandari from Uttarakhand and Shri Ashraf from Karnataka secured the second and the third places in the men's category, while Ms Pranjila Shetty from Karnataka took the second place in the women’s event. The festival, which began on Thursday at Meenthullippara in Chakkittapara, ended with a downriver race at Elanthakadavu in Pulloorampara.
The festival was organized by the Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society, in collaboration with the District Tourism Promotion Council and the Department of Local Administration, with support from the Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association. It attracted participants from across India and 13 international kayakers from eight countries. This year’s event was particularly notable for the increased participation of Keralite kayakers.
The valedictory ceremony was inaugurated by Minister Shri O.R. Kelu, while the Tourism Minister Shri P. A. Mohamed Riyas awarded the prizes, including the Rapid Raja and Rapid Rani titles for the downriver race winners. The total prize money for the event was ?10,15,000.
