Kanthallur Tourism Fest a Grand Success
The village that won the gold award for Best Tourism Village, Kanthallur, has successfully completed the Kanthallur Tourism Fest. A fete that was held to explore the tourism potential of the village and to attract more tourists, the festival was conducted in association with drivers’ union, Forests and Wildlife department, merchants’ associations, homestay and resorts association, Kanthallur panchayat and tribal villages under the panchayat.
“Kanthallur is be one of the places in the district where tourists can see different types of farming and tourism activities,” said Mr. P.T. Mohandas, Panchayat President, Kanthallur.
As part of the fest, tourists could visit 49 tourist attractions in and around Kanthallur, including dolmens, tribal settlements, Marayur jaggery fields, waterfalls and viewpoints, according to the organisers. The tribal food court. tribal dance, carnival, amusement park, flower show and various cultural programmes were the highlights of the fest.
‘Kanthallur Kanavu,’ a food processing and marketing expo by the District Industries Centre was conducted as part of the fest. Nearly 40 entrepreneurs participated in the expo.
Kanthallur village in Devikulam taluk of Idukki district, won the Government of India's prestigious Gold award in the Best Rural Tourism Projects category. The panchayat officials are immensely proud at winning the award as well as for placing Kanthallur as one of the most happening tourist destinations in Idukki district. The orchards of Kanthallur are also a major attraction to the tourists, as it is the only place in Kerala, where apples are commercially cultivated.
