Kerala Government Allocates Rs.Three Crores for Valanchuzhy Tourism Project in Pathanamthitta
The Kerala government has sanctioned Rs 3.06 crores for the first phase of the Valanchuzhy Tourism Project in Pathanamthitta, marking a significant step toward enhancing tourism in this scenic village along the Achankovil river. Valanchuzhy, with its picturesque landscapes and rich cultural heritage, holds immense potential for tourism, and this project is part of Kerala Tourism’s broader initiative to promote lesser-known destinations across the state. The first phase of the project is set to be completed within 18 months, and includes key infrastructure developments such as the construction of an entrance plaza, walkways, restrooms, food kiosks, shops and other essential amenities.
The Valanchuzhy Tourism Project aligns with Kerala’s Responsible Tourism Mission, which emphasizes eco-friendly and sustainable development. The project is designed to preserve the cultural and historical significance of Valanchuzhy while providing modern facilities that cater to tourists. By promoting eco-friendly infrastructure, the initiative ensures that the natural beauty of the village is protected, allowing visitors to enjoy the serene environment without compromising its ecological balance.
A key aspect of this project is its focus on empowering local communities. The development of tourism facilities will create opportunities for local entrepreneurs because they will be encouraged to set up small businesses, such as food stalls, souvenir shops and guided tours, that cater to tourists. This will not only generate income for the local population but also enhance the overall visitor experience.
Sri P. A. Mohamed Riyas, Minister, Kerala Tourism, has emphasized that the Valanchuzhy Tourism Project is part of the state’s efforts to boost leisure tourism and further strengthen Kerala’s position as a leading travel destination. He highlighted the importance of infrastructure improvements that are in line with sustainable tourism practices, ensuring that development benefits both the environment and the local community. With these initiatives in place, Valanchuzhy is expected to become a popular destination for both domestic and international travellers.
The project aims to attract more visitors to Valanchuzhy by enhancing its accessibility and improving the overall tourist experience. Once completed, the village is poised to become a key attraction in Pathanamthitta, drawing tourists who are eager to explore the natural beauty and cultural heritage of this charming riverside destination.
