Kerala Launches 'Destination Adoption' Initiative to Keep Tourism Sites Clean and Green
On World Tourism Day, Kerala's Tourism Clubs have launched a groundbreaking "Destination Adoption" initiative, aimed at ensuring that tourism sites across the state remain clean, green and well-maintained. The initiative, part of the activities of tourism clubs, was inaugurated by the Shri P. A. Mohamed Riyas, Minister, Kerala Tourism, at Veli Tourism Village.
Mr Riyas praised the programme as a creative intervention by the youth, emphasizing the importance of maintaining destinations in a way that promotes sustainable tourism growth. He noted that cleanliness and environmental responsibility are essential for enhancing Kerala’s appeal as a global tourism destination.
The minister highlighted that the theme of World Tourism Day 2024, "Tourism and Peace," resonates deeply with Kerala’s inclusive and harmonious culture, which contributes to the state’s reputation for peace and social unity. Kerala's secular ethos and the spirit of communal celebration are integral to its charm, further attracting tourists to its diverse and scenic destinations.
Mr Riyas urged the Tourism Clubs to serve as models of excellence by maintaining tourism destinations responsibly. Each club should create a vision for the sites they adopt, and prepare an active calendar of tasks to be completed before the next World Tourism Day. This effort will ensure that Kerala's tourism sites not only remain attractive but also align with the state's commitment to sustainable and responsible tourism.
He also announced plans for an Innovation and Incubation Centre to support startups in the tourism sector, offering future opportunities for members of tourism clubs to evolve into entrepreneurs. This initiative is expected to pave the way for creative and sustainable tourism ventures, contributing to Kerala's long-term tourism development goals.
