Kerala still a Favourite Haunt for Travellers

The latest figures released by the Tourism Department of Kerala point to the fact that despite the brief lull in the inflow of tourists during the COVID period, Kerala has held onto its position at the top of travel charts steadily. According to the Department, more than half a crore foreigners have travelled to the state on leisure in the last seven years. Insiders state that the figures point to the fact that Kerala is in for a huge boom in the tourism sector in the near future. 

During the seven years from 2016, 53.50 lakh foreign travellers have visited God’s Own Country. As per records of the Office of the Director of Tourism, 43.10 lakh people from across 133 countries visited Kerala from May 2016 to May 2021. A total of 10.39 lakh travellers arrived between May 2021 and May 2023. These arrivals are from 183 different countries. The largest number of arrivals have been from the United States of America - 82,206 in the year 2023 and 44,851 in 2022. The year 2021 witnessed an increased inflow of tourists from Russia - 12,564. Experts state that Kerala’s affable climate and the natural beauty it is bestowed with are the biggest attractions for foreign visitors.
