Kerala has geared up to enthrall its visitors with a wide range of events this February. The festivities will kick off with the Nishagandhi Dance Festival being held from 14th to 20th February 2025. The International Surfing Festival will be held at Varkala in Thiruvananthapuram district on February 27th and 28th, the International Paragliding Festival at Vagamon in Idukki from March 19th to 23rd, and the Mountain Terrain Biking Championship (MTB Kerala 2025) on March 28th and 30th at Mananthavady in Wayanad.
On the cultural front, one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year, the Nishagandhi Dance Festival is a seven-day cultural extravaganza. The event will be held at the Nishagandhi Auditorium in the lush grounds of the Kanakakkunnu Palace, Thiruvananthapuram. Visitors to the festival are in for a treat as each evening will showcase various classical dance forms such as Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi, Mohiniyattam, Manipuri, and Kuchipudi, performed by both renowned artists as well as emerging talents. The festival also features classical music, Kathakali performances, arts and crafts exhibitions, and a food festival, offering a vibrant cultural experience. Entry is free, making it accessible to a broader audience. Organised by Kerala Tourism, the focus of the festival is to promote Indian heritage and culture, attracting numerous foreign tourists as well.
All three sporting events such as international surfing, paragliding, and mountain cycling championships are being organised by the Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society (KATPS) under the aegis of the Department of Tourism in association with the respective District Tourism Promotion Councils (DTPCs). “These events firmly mark Kerala as a leading adventure sports destination on the global adventure tourism map,” Kerala Tourism Minister Shri. P. A. Mohamed Riyas said.
Surfers from different parts of the country will vie for honours in various categories such as SUP Technical Race, Paddle Board Technical Race, and SUP Surfing. Technical support for the event is extended by the Surfing Federation of India and the International Surfing Association (ISA). The International Paragliding Festival, India’s biggest aero sports event, to be held at the picturesque backdrop of Vagamon, will have around 75 gliders vying for honours, of whom 40 will be from abroad. Cyclists from about 25 countries are expected to participate in the eighth edition of the International Mountain Cycling Championship (MTB Kerala 2025). The event will also feature amateur competitions of cyclists from India.
