Kerala Tourism has launched an extensive promotional campaign ahead of the summer travel season, anticipating a significant rise in domestic tourist arrivals. At a press conference in New Delhi, Smt. Sikha Surendran, Director, Kerala Tourism, assured that the state's appeal as a travel destination continues to evolve, with new tourism products and initiatives aimed at enhancing visitor experiences.
With domestic tourism forming a major portion of Kerala’s tourism industry, a nationwide promotional campaign has been rolled out to strengthen partnerships with stakeholders across key cities. Kerala witnessed 1,08,57,181 domestic tourists in the first half of 2024 (January–June), continuing the steady growth trend seen since 2022, when numbers surpassed pre-pandemic levels. To further expand its reach, B2B meets have been planned in Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Chennai, and Kolkata, with the first roadshow of the year held in Hyderabad on January 21.
As part of its summer promotion, Kerala Tourism is spotlighting North Kerala destinations such as Bekal, Wayanad, and Kozhikode, in addition to promoting lesser-known locations that have seen significant improvements in infrastructure, logistics, and digital connectivity. Alongside its renowned backwaters, beaches, houseboats and hill stations, Kerala is emphasizing experiential tourism through cultural festivals, adventure sports and wellness tourism initiatives.
Kerala is also emerging as an adventure tourism hub, hosting major international sporting events, including:
International Paragliding Festival at Vagamon (March 19-23)
Mountain Terrain Biking Championship in Wayanad (March 28-30)
Kerala continues to position itself as a luxury and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism destination, attracting both domestic and international clientele. The state has also seen an increase in destination weddings, with couples opting for Kerala’s picturesque landscapes and world-class hospitality services to celebrate their special occasions.
With its diverse tourism experiences, ranging from houseboat cruises and caravan stays to Ayurveda-based wellness retreats and plantation tours, Kerala remains a top choice for travelers looking for unique, immersive and all-season vacation options.
