Padayani is a week-long ritual dance, held in Goddess temples situated mainly on the banks of the Pamba River. The Poozhikunnu Bhagavathy Temple at Thottapuzhacherry celebrates the Padayani festival as the annual Meena Bharani festival.
The rituals of Padayani here start with Choottu vaipu. It is followed by the drumming of Thappu on the third day. The first kolam to appear at Poozhikunnu is the Pisachu Kolam that is on the fourth day. The rituals of Thappu Melam, Thavadi and kolams performances like Pisachu, Kuthira and Bhairavi comes on the fifth day.
The sixth day is for Adavi. Once the rituals of Palliappana, Mara Adavi, and Udumbu Thullal ends Thappu Melam begins. It is followed by Thavadi and Vinodam (comic interlude) are held. The kolams appear on Adavi day are the Panchakolam, Bhairavi kolam and Sundara Yakshi.
The seventh day is for Edappayadani and the kolams on stage are Pisachu, Pakshi, Kuthira, Thalla Marutha, Naga Yakshi, Arakiya Yakshi, Kalan, Bhairavi, and Madan.
The Valiya Padayani begins with Velakali witness the performance of all the kolams and the Padayani here marks an end with the performance of Mangala Kolam.
