This is a full-day conservation-oriented hard trek along the boundary of the Tiger Reserve. The trek starts at eight in the morning and goes on till the evening.
During your trek through various kinds of terrain, you can enjoy the rich flora and fauna of the Periyar Tiger Reserve. The trek route covers altitudinal ranges of 900 meters to 1300 meters and the view of the plains below is simply mesmerizing. You can get a close look of wildlife like the gaur, the sloth bear, the elephant and various other wild animals. Apart from this, you will also be able to watch a variety of birds and butterflies.
A maximum of 10 tourists can take part in the programme, in two groups. Guides and armed forest guards will accompany each group for tours of the plantation and visits to tribal settlements. Such tours are conducted under the aegis of the District Tourism Information Office at Thekkady.
